Brussel Sprouts are here!

If you have never scene these on a stalk - it's quite a site. I'll have to remember to take a picture at the market and edit this post. Also, if you haven't tried brussel sprouts since you were a kid, you must try them again. When they are fresh and not overcooked they are really delicious. I made this easy recipe last night, it was so good I may even do brussel sprouts for the Sunday Supper instead of salad... we'll see...

Brussel Sprouts and Bacon

I had about 2 handfuls of small brussel sprouts and cut off the ends and then thinly sliced them so they would cook quickly - not paper thin, but maybe 1/8 inch. Then I fried 3 pieces of bacon in a large pan, removed them when mostly done and added a little butter to the pan with the bacon fat. Then I added the brussel sprouts and sauted until lightly browned but still crispy, about 5 min. then added back the bacon and heated through. If they need to cook a little more and are already brown, you can add a couple tablespoons of water or chicken broth. Don't salt until you taste as the bacon will flavor it, just add fresh ground pepper and serve hot.
