It was Eva's birthday again when I asked she wanted another lemon cake. Actually on a taste scale - I think the other was better, more lemony - but this one has curb appeal! I did this in a checkerboard cake pan with a simple buttermilk cake recipe that I added lemon zest and juice. Don't fret - I'm not super tricky, I had a special pan that separates the batter. The other trick was that I weighed the batter so that it would be even then added a little red food coloring to make it pink and white, since the flavor was the same for both. I think that an easier way to do this is just use 2 cake mixes - one chocolate and one plain. But this was pretty cute in pink and white. When you cut into it it has a checkerboard pattern, it's a little hard to see in the photo. Not an everyday cake, but pretty cute I'd say.
