Speaking of in Season

Lilacs!!! I think this is the shortest season of anything; Ed brings them to the farmer's market only 2 (max 3) weeks a year. The smell doesn't fill the room like someone wearing cheap cologne. It's just something you catch a whiff of when you pass by and the air slightly stirs the cascade of little purple leaves. You have to enjoy each moment in life as it's all truly fleeting. Stop and smell the lilacs. R

  1. Awww...my favorite flower of all time. Love this shot, love the color, love the vase, and I totally love the description. Yes! The scent is fleeting and lovely, just like the flower. Here in Colorado, I am keeping an anxious eye on my deserted farm field, the one with ancient lilac bushes that Lili and I pilfer. This year, the land has been bulldozed, made ready for 10 new homes, and so far the bushes are intact. Late spring makes for late lilacs and we'll probably be cutting around Mother's Day...xoxo Enjoy each moment for sure...thanks for the reminder :)

  2. Yes - my motto for the month is Live, Live, LIVE - courtesy of Aunti Mame, as a friend reminded me of this the other day. Oh - that little pink bit in the front is actually a orchid that came from my yard. It's squished into a corner next to a huge bamboo, and every year I forget it's there until one flower stem blooms and peers out at me from behind all the leaves... sometimes it's the little things. Ok, maybe the little things are the best! Kisses!

  4. well, don't be impressed - it's the only one that I've ever had bloom again! maybe the trick is to put them in a corner and ignore it!
